We were heading out to a family reunion in Radford,
Va when we were passing by the new National
D-Day Memorial in the little town of Bedford, Va
on Route 460 between Roanoke and Lynchburg. We
decided to take a few minutes to have a look. As we moved up the walkway
expecting to view a lone arch with some flags around its perimeter, we were
captured by a thematic cyclorama beyond the arch that opened up before our
eyes. Turns out that Bedford
suffered the greatest per capita losses on D-Day, losing 21 men (out of a
population of 3,200) in the first 15 minutes of the assault. We
thought you might like to view a few scenes from this fitting memorial.
