In 2006, we finally made it to Phoenix to visit my sister Marcia and brother-in-law Dick Wickenkamp. It was a great trip that allowed us to see most of the family on their side who now lives there including daughtersVickie, Lisa, and dad Floyd. Then we rented a car and drove up for our first Grand Canyon experience. It was a beautiful drive through the Sonoran desert, past Flagstaff and majestic snow-capped Mt. Humphries, through prairie and Ponderosa forest, and finally to the canyon. WOW! When I walked towards Yavapai overlook and the panorama first opened up in front of my eyes, I felt an awe run through me reminiscent of when Becky's first child popped out. I only wish I had owned a high-definition camcorder for that trip. Here are a few scenic shots...

The size of the people offers some reference of scope. The Colorado River cuts through the gorge far below.

The far side of the canyon is ten miles away.                Looking towards the Watchtower at the east end.

Hermit's Rest is at the west end of the main canyon road, the Watchtower is at the east end.

A 1 mile drop behind me. (Sue kept asking me to backup.) A sunset with the Colorado River in the distance.

On the way back to Phoenix, a stop to see an ancient Indian residence, Montezuma's Castle.
